US Meat Groups to Merge American Meat Institute (AMI) general members voted unanimously in mid-April to merge with the North American Meat Association (NAMA), whose board voted to proceed in March 2014. The two organizations will create a transitional committee to begin the process of merging operations and governing structure. AMI and NAMA will become one group effective January 1, 2015. Wilbur-Ellis Acquires Allied Premium Protein Wilbur-Ellis’ Feed Division has acquired Allied Premium Protein (APP), a division of Brown Packing Co., Inc. Located in Gaffney, SC, APP is a provider of animal protein meals to the domestic and international livestock industry. Brown Packing Co. will continue to operate its beef operation in Gaffney. The acquisition is part of Wilbur- Ellis’ Feed Division’s eastward expansion in North America. The division has added marketing offices in Wichita, KS, Raleigh, NC, and Richmond, VA. Offices have also been open in Canada in Guelph, ON, and Halifax, NS. Wilbur-Ellis’ Feed Division is a marketer and distributor of value-added feed ingredients for the aquaculture, livestock, and pet food industries in North America and Asia- Pacific. In recent years, the company has invested s u b s t a n t i a l resources in improving its supply chain operations and focusing on issues such as product safety, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and risk management.
